The Value of Attending an Information Session: Everything You Need to Know Before Starting Your Graduate Education

Written by Baylor School of Social Work Team on 03.14.19

If there is one thing that is common to all graduate social work students, it is that a lot of questions come up during the application process. In an effort to collect the most accurate information and make the best decision about your next steps, we strive to provide you with all the information you need in an easy-to-access format and a welcoming, dynamic environment.

That is why, in addition to the digital resources we have available, we host frequent information sessions on our Houston and Waco campuses. Read on to learn more about what to expect from these sessions and why a current MSW student found attending helpful and impactful.

Explore Baylor University's digital resource page: Master of Social Work — The MBA of the Helping Professions!

Here's What You Can Expect from an MSW Info Session:

  • Learn about the field of social work.

  • Explore how the MSW program at the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work will prepare you as a professional in the field.

  • Walk through the application process, guided by Baylor Admissions professionals, and ask them your questions.

  • Review financial aid information and opportunities and learn where you could qualify for financial assistance.

  • Learn about other events and opportunities to connect with the Garland School of Social Work.

  • Light snacks provided — (Yep, you read that right! There will be food.)

#1 Benefit of Attending Our MSW Info Sessions:

The number one reason prospective students should attend an MSW information session is to obtain a better idea of our program and have the chance to ask specific questions to help solidify their admission decisions.

This Is What an MSW Student Had to Say After Attending:

After attending a Baylor MSW event, I was hooked and knew that this career path was the perfect fit I'd been searching for! I learned there that Social Work is a flexible, ever-molding, compassionate, and holistic approach to empowering people. From the minute the Garland team welcomed me, I felt at ease, the sense of being at home. — Toni Portacci, MSW ‘19

Whether you are deep in the middle of your graduate school search, or just beginning to research which MSW program is the right fit for you — we want to invite you to come to an MSW information session. Come to learn more about the social work profession and to speak directly with admissions professionals and get answers to the questions you have. We are excited to have you join us!
